Andrea Sciarretta is Full Professor in General and Applied Entomology at the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences, University of Molise, Italy, since 2013.He has been Associated Professor at the University of Molise and Researcher at the Agricultural Research Council, Italy. He got his Ph.D. degree in Crop and Food Protection at the University of Molise in 2000.
He was Visiting Scientist and consultant at International Centre Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), Kenya and Ethiopia. He has been invited speaker at ICIPE Ethiopia, IFAD (Rome), University of Neuchâtel, Forum Herbulot, and Italian Congress of Entomology. He is member of the Scientific Board of the International PhD in Agriculture Technology and Biotechnology at the University of Molise.
Among others, he is/was: project leader of the project “Mainstreaming the Biofarming System in Ethiopian and Ugandan Higher Education Institutions”, funded by ACP-EU Co-operation Programme in Higher Education Edulink II; scientific coordinator of the project “Product and process innovation to obtain dry plums pesticide-free as baby food”, funded by the European Union Rural Development Programme; coordinator of the unit Ethiopia in the project “Development of trapping and target devices for controlling vectors of human African trypanosomiasis”, funded by World Health Organization;unit coordinator of the project “In-silico boosted, pest prevention and off-season focused IPM against new and emerging fruit flies”, funded by the EU program Horizon 2020 and of the project "Commercialization of an automated monitoring and control system against the olive and med fruit flies of the Mediterranean region” – FruitFlyNet-ii, funded by EU program ENI CBC Med.
He is a member of several national and international Scientific Societies. He acts as a regular reviewer for more than 50 international peer-reviewed journals and is in the Editorial Board of the journals Agronomy, Current Agriculture Research Journal, BMC Ecology and Evolution, Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution.
