He graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Milano (Italy). He was Associated Professor at the University of Tuscia and at the University of Molise. From 2001 is Full Professor in General and Applied Entomology at University of Molise, Campobasso (Italy). He has held numerous institutional roles as Rector delegate, member of university board of directors, Coordinator of PhD courses and Doctoral School in Plant production and protection. 

He serves as expert in national and international institutions. Convenor of Working Group IOBC/wprs - IPSP; Member of permanent commitee IWCSPP; Member of national advisor commitee for pesticides registration; Member of RIRAB board and Ministerial commitee on biological agriculture; Member of national board and vice-President  of Italian Plant Protection Association; Member of board of Societas Europaea Lepidopterologica.

Member of: Italian Academy of Entomology; International Organization for Biological Control; International Working Conference on Stored Product Protection; Italian Entomological Society; Societas Lepidopterologica Europea; Italian Association Plant Protection; Associazione Romana di Entomologia; Associazione Lepidotterologica Italiana.

Research interest: Biology and ecology of insect pests; Application of new methods in the control of insect pests; Integrated Pest Management of insect pests in orchards; Researchs on stored product pests and stored product protection; Faunistc and systematic studies on Lepidoptera Tortricidae.

Publications: Described 85 new insect species of Lepidoptera, wrote 6 books and about 500 papers on systematic and applied entomology.
