SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
 
 
The orientation of the scientific research activity has turned to the study of the aging of the cardiovascular system, with reference to the clinical pictures of ischemic heart disease, chronic heart failure, syncope, clinical frailty.
In particular, the research activity focused on:
• Translational research with the basic study of phenomena related to aging, clinically relevant;
• Translational research with the study of cardiovascular regeneration starting from embryonic stem cells and their derivatives;
• Use of nanotechnologies in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases;
• Influence in chronic heart failure of extremely prevalent conditions in old age such as frailty;
• Clinical characterization of elderly patients with syncope;
 
 
Formal assignment of teaching or research assignments at qualified foreign or supranational universities and research institutes
 
• 11/2004 - 11/2006:
Fellowship at the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Science of the Gerontology Research Center at the National Institute on Aging - National Institutes of Health in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, directed by Prof. E.G. Lakatta. The activity took place at the "Molecular Cardiology Unit" coordinated by Dr. K.R. Boheler.
