Giovanni Cerchia (Switzerland, 1965) has been a full professor of Contemporary History at the University of Molise since March 2021.
He graduated in Political Science in Naples in May 1991 and obtained his PhD in Milan in 1997, working until 2002 at the University of Rome "La Sapienza".
From June 2004 to June 2006, he coordinated the collection and organization of the Pietro Ingrao Fund at the Center for Initiatives and Studies for State Reform (CRS) in Rome, subsequently directing the CRS until June 2007. He is a member of the scientific committees of the Giorgio Amendola Foundation (Turin) and CRS-Pietro Ingrao (Rome), as well as of the executive board of the Campanian Institute for the History of Resistance, Anti-Fascism, and Contemporary History "Vera Lombardi" (Naples). Since March 2019, he has been the scientific director of the Giorgio Amendola Foundation (Turin). In December 2020, he was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Royal Palace of Caserta. As of October 2024, he is responsible for the Laboratory of Geo-History, Politics, and Economics for the Territory at the Department of Economics at the University of Molise. Since April 2025, he has been the president of the Scientific Committee and a member of the Executive Board of the Regional Institute for Historical Studies of Molise "Vincenzo Cuoco."
He has participated and continues to participate in the editorial and scientific committees of various journals and editorial series, including the "Documentation and Research Center for the History of Educational Institutions, School Books, and Children's Literature," "Nuovo meridionalismo online," the Citoyens series (Ediesse) and Pagine di Novecento molisano e del Mezzogiorno d’Italia (Volturnia), "Italianieuropei," "Poligraphia," and the "Bulletin of the Historical Office" of the Italian Army General Staff Archive.
His main publications focus on the history of the Italian political left in the twentieth century and the events of World War II, with particular attention to Southern Italy.
