EDUCATION
1984, July 14th: attended the Liceo Classico Statale G. Chiabrera in Savona. Obtained the maturità classica statale (equivalent to A levels) with the highest possible marks (60/60).
1984, October: competed for one of the places at the faculty of Arts of the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and was admitted as eleventh with 85 out of 110 points (the rigorous selection procedure of the S.N.S. can be likened to that of Oxford or Cambridge University in England; a S.N.S. student is automatically matriculated at the University of Pisa).
1984-88: kept the scholarship.
1988, October 20th: graduated in Modern Literature at the University of Pisa with the grade 110 out 110 “cum laude” (“L'«Epistre d'Othéa» di Christine de Pizan: problemi di composizione ed iconografia - The «Epistre d'Othéa» of Christine de Pizan: Problems of Composition and Iconography. Supervisor Chiara Frugoni; Co-Supervisors Anna Rosa Calderoni Masetti and Salvatore Settis).
1988, October: obtained the Degree in Literature of the Scuola Normale Superiore in agreement with article 18 of the Statute of the Scuola Normale approved by D.P.R. (Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica) on 31/3/1969 n. 281 and successive modifications having met the requirements of the internal regulations of studies.
GRADUATE STUDY AWARDS AND HONORS:
1989, November: competed and obtained as 8th, with 102 out 110, a 3 yearly PHD post at the Arts Faculty of the Scuola Normale Superiore, beginning 1th December 1989.
1994, September 19th: discussed Ph D. Thesis in History of Art at the Scuola Normale Superiore (“La scienza antiquaria di Ulisse Aldrovandi-The antiquarian science of Ulisse Aldrovandi”, Supervisor Paola Barocchi).
1997, May 28th; discussed Ph D. Thesis in History of Art (Doctor’s Degree) at the Scuola Superiore di Studi Storici in S. Marino, Italy (“«... E che le cose sue possino servire per regola». Per una nuova biografia di Vincenzio Borghini - An attempt to a new biography of Vincenzio Borghini”, Supervisor Prof. Francis Haskell, Co-Supervisor Prof. Lina Bolzoni).
25 January 1996: two year post-doctoral study grant at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa on antiquarian studies in mid sixteenth-century Italy.
December 1997: obtained an eleven month study grant of CNR (Centro Nazionale delle Ricerche, Roma) for the discipline science and technology of the cultural heritage. This involves the study of prints and drawings representing antique sculpture at the Warburg Institute, London (Supervisor prof. Nicholas Mann).
In the quarter January to April 2000 received a Frances Yates Fellow at the Warburg Institute in London.
Since July 2001 had a yearly scholarship at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence to study painting in Italy in the XIXth century (which was renewed until 28 February 2005).
From May 2006 to June 2008 has been a member of the Executive Council of the Consulta Nazionale Universitaria della Storia dell’Arte (National Board for History of Arts in the Universities).

ACADEMIC LECTURES
1985/86: in the context of the course held at the S.N.S. by Prof. Salvatore Settis “Roman Sarcophagi: Construction and Meaning”, presented a seminar on the analysis of antique monuments by the American archaeologist Richard Brilliant.
1986/87: for the course of Prof. Enrico Castelnuovo “Gothic Ivories. Roles and Functions of Microtecniques in Medieval Art” gave a seminar with the title: “The ivory Cathedra of Ravenna and the Ivories of the Cathedral of Salerno”. For Prof. Settis course “Magnogreek and Siceliot Art between Centre and Periphery” gave a seminar on the person of the archaeologist E. Langlotz.
1987/88: for the course of Prof. Settis, “The Birth of Historiography of Greek Art” presented a seminar on epigraphical testimonies relative to the artists in the Roman world.
1990: for the course of Prof. Settis “Aby Warburg from the Renaissance of Antiquity to a Morphology of Expression”, gave a seminar entitled “The Frescos of Schifanoia after Warburg”, subsequently published in the review “Schifanoia” (n. 11, 1991, pp. 9-20).
1998: in occasion of the congress on Vincenzio Borghini held in Pisa, at the Scuola Normale Superiore, presented a report entitled “Borghini’s antiquarian Studies: hypotheses for further research”.
17 April 2002: held a seminar in Turin DAMS entitled “Francesco Sansovino dalle «Lettere sopra le diece Giornate del Decamerone» alla «Venetia città nobilissima et singolare» – Francesco Sansovino’s works: from the «Ten days of the Decameron» to the «Venetia et unique noble city», which was published as an essay.
May 2002: at the Department of History of Arts, University of Pisa, gave a seminar entitled: ““The history of painting as «a national gender»: reflections and problems. From art for a nation to the art of the nation - La pittura di storia come ‘genere nazionale’: riflessioni e problemi. Dall'arte per una nazione all'arte della Nazione” .
October 2002: attended at the congress organized by the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz on Italian painting of XIX century, with the report: “Painting of history: theory and practice. The hall of the Guards Corps in the Royal Palace of Turin and the debate up to the forties of the nineteenth century - La pittura di storia: teoria e prassi. La sala delle Guardie del Corpo nel Palazzo Reale di Torino e il dibattito fino agli anni Quaranta dell'Ottocento”.
June 2003: attended the conference organized in Paris on the Italian and French Academies in the sixteenth century and held a seminar entitled: “Vincenzo Borghini, Lelio Torelli, and the Accademia del Disegno in Florence: Some considerations - Vincenzio Borghini, Lelio Torelli e l'Accademia del Disegno di Firenze: alcune considerazioni”.
November 2003: at the congress on Della Casa held in Florence gave a report entitled: “Towards the critical edition of Della Casa’s correspondence - Verso l'edizione dell'epistolario casiano”.
December 2003: presented at the congress on texts and images held in Cividale del Friuli, the seminar entitled: “Between sources and images: the controversy on the Florentine baptistery in the writings of Don Vincenzio Borghini - Tra fonti e immagini: la polemica sul battistero fiorentino negli scritti di don Vincenzio Borghini”.
30 September-1 October 2004: attended at the congress organized along with Silvia Ginzburg at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, “Texts, images and philology in the sixteenth century - Testi, immagini e filologia nel XVI secolo ”, of which also published acts;

On April 10, 2010 presented at the Renaissance Society's Congress the report: "La fortuna di Plinio negli scritti d’arte fiorentini nel XVI secolo: ricezione della fonte antica ed editoria moderna".
