Elisa Novi Chavarria is full professor in modern history at the Department of Humans, Socials an Educations Sciences in the “Università degli Studi del Molise”.
She received scholarships in historical Institutes, at the “Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Storici di Napoli” and at the “Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici” in 1979-80, at the “Ẻcole Pratique des Hautes Ẻtudes” in Paris in 1982. In 1987 she was awarded her Doctor of Philosophy degree in European Social History in 1987 by the “Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II”.
She taught in the high school from 1984 to 2002. She has been visiting Professor in contemporary history (d. u. di Operatore dei Beni Culturali – during academic year 1999-2000) at Università degli Studi di Salerno, in the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy. In April 2002, she was promoted to associate professor in modern History and since November 2002 she teaches modern history at the “Università degli Studi del Molise”. She achieved the national scientific qualification of full professor in modern history in July 2012.
She is the councilor for the equal opportunity and the president of the unique committee of guarantee at the University of Molise. She is the chief of the gender cultural center at the University of Molise.
She is corresponding member of Accademia Pontiana. From 2008 to 2012, she was member of the management for the “Centro Interuniversitario per la Storia del Clero e delle Istituzioni Ecclesiastiche (CISCIE) ” and of the management for the “Società Italiana degli Storici dell'Età Moderna (SISEM)”. She was the coordinator of the research unit of Molise within the research project on the ecclesiastical feudalism “Feudalità laica e feudalità ecclesiastica nel Mezzogiorno moderno (secoli XV-XIX)” (PRIN 2007).
She is member of the Scientific Committee of the “Consorzio Interuniversitario Civiltà del
Mediterraneo" in the Department of Philosophy in the “Università di Napoli Federico II".
She was motivated in the study of the social and religious history and the history of the
institutions of the ancient Italian States. She has been a speaker in several meetings, she is author of several articles in miscellaneous magazines and volumes, as well as monographic essays.
