I am an Associate Professor of Italian linguistic at the University of Molise, where I am the rector's delegate for the Library, after having been the delegate for the Third Mission and for Public Engagement (2022-2025).
I graduated in Humanities in 2005 at the University of Salento, where I discussed a thesis in History of Italian Language (title: The Love Bestiary in the Sicilian Poetic School), achieving the score of 110/110 cum laude. In 2009, at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, I held the Doctorate (PhD) in Historical Linguistics and Linguistic History of Italian (thesis in Italian Linguistics: Cola de Jennaro, Della natura del cavallo e sua nascita (Tunis, 1479). From 2016 to 2019 I was a senior Researcher (RTDb) of Italian Linguistic at the University of Molise. Previously, from 2015 to 2016 I was a junior researcher (RTDa) at the University of Salento, where I held research and teaching positions in Italian Linguistics and Romance Philology and Linguistics. In the same university, since 2003, I have carried out various research activities: Research Fellow in Italian Linguistics (2009-2014); scientific director of the ADAMaP project (Digital Archive of Ancient Manuscripts of Apulia, www.adamap.it) (2009-2015); participant in the PRIN SALVIt (Study, Archive, and Lexicon of the Italian Vernacularizations) (2007) and CASVI (Census, Archive, and Study of Italian Vernacular Translations) (2005); editor of computerized bibliographic and lexical materials (2003-2004).
From the academic year 2010-11 to that 2013-14 I was Adjunct Professor of Romance Philology for the master’s degree in Modern Philology at the University of Bari “Aldo Moro”.
Since 2010 I have held lectures by invitation to degree and PhD courses at Italian and foreign universities (University of Bari “Aldo Moro”; University of Salento; University for Foreigners of Perugia; Masarykova univerzita of Brno). In June 2018 I held a teaching visit at the Institut für Romanistik of the Universität des Saarlandes (Germany); in January 2020 I was a Visiting Researcher at the Universidad O’Higgins di Rancagua (Chile); in April 2025, I conducted research at Queens College in New York City (USA).
Since 2004 I have attended, as a speaker and/or organizer, in numerous national and international conferences (Basel, Brno, Campobasso, Catania, Chieti, Copenhagen, Fisciano, Helsinki, Lecce, Louvain-la-Neuve, Matera, Milan, Nancy, Naples, Palermo, Princeton, Rome, Santiago de Compostela, Turin, València).
In February 2019 I was selected as a member of the board of examiners for the final exam of the PhD Course in Literary, Philological and Linguistic Studies at the University of Palermo (XXXI cycle, academic year 2015-16).
Since 2016 I’m the scientific director of the project BDSud (Biblioteca Digitale del Sud, www.bdsud.it).I am an editor of the Italian Etymological Lexicon (LEI), founded by Max Pfister and directed by Elton Prifiti (Universität Wien) and Wolfgang Schweickard (Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken) (since 2016), and of the Romance EtymologicalDictionary (DÉRom, http://www.atilf.fr/DERom), directed by Eva Buchi (ATILF, Nancy) and Wolfgang Schweickard (Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken) (since 2012).
I am a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal «Lingue e Linguaggi» (since 2016) and an editor for the “Salento” section of the «RID. Rivista Italiana di Dialettologia. Lingue dialetti società» (from 2015). Since 2014, I have been an evaluator for the scientific journals «Bollettino del Centro di studi filologici e linguistici siciliani», «Le forme e la storia», «Studi di lessicografia italiana».
I have received several prizes and awards for scientific activity: qualified for the functions of Full Professor in the field 10 / F3 Italian linguistics and philology (ASN, 2020); admitted, on a selective basis, to the Fund for the Financing of Basic Research Activities - FFABR [MIUR] (2017); winner of the “Cassano Prize for Italian Linguistics” (XIX edition) [Institute of Research and Studies of Demology and Dialectology - IRSDD in Cassano allo Ionio] (2016); winner of the “5 per thousand for research” selection for the publication of volumes written by researchers (University of Salento); thanks to the ADATest project (Digital Archive of the Ancient Texts of Apulia), winner of the program for young researchers called FutureInResearch [Apulia Region FSC 2007/2013 - FutureInResearch Intervention] (2014).
I am a member of the Association for the History of Italian Language (ASLI), of the Intervention and Study Group in the Field of Linguistic Education (GISCEL), of the International Society of Italian Linguistics and Philology (SILFI) and of the Society of Romance Linguistics (SLR) (from 2019 I am a member of the Bureau: https://www.slir.org/societe/bureau-2019-2022/).
About my research activities, I published almost fifty books and papers on the Italian Poetry of Origins, textual traditions in the vernacular of Southern Italy, humanistic informatics, Romance lexicon, sectoral languages, punctuation and didactics of Italian. I published a book on the tradition of Giordano Ruffo’s De liber marescalcie and the edition of an Italo-Romance translation derived from this work (handed down by the Ms. Vat. Lat. 10001). I am preparing several studies on the children punctuation and on the administrative language, besides a volume on the textual traditions of Salento.
At the University of Molise I carry out various institutional roles, in addition to the rector's delegation: member of the executive committee of the University Linguistic Center (CLA) (2018-); member of the board of directors of the Center for higher education and for public and private management (Centro Unimol Management) (2020-) member of the Single Guarantee Committee (CUG) for equal opportunities, the enhancement of the well-being of workers and against discrimination (2022-).
